Happy New Year to everyone! I pray you had a wonderful Christmas and that your New Year is blessed.
First, I want to invite everyone to our new series "Balance" during the month of January. When you think about the "why" behind New Year resolutions it's not hard to realize what we're seeking is balance in our lives. So, over the next few weeks that's exactly what we'll be exploring in God's word; it would be great to see you here every Sunday in January.
There's one other opportunity I want to encourage you to take advantage of and that is Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey. January has a unique ability to make us painfully aware of any financial issues we need to deal with. On January 18th, one of our lay leaders, Kevin Riley, will be leading the Financial Peace Seminar every Wednesday night from 6-7:30pm and we would love to have you attend. The cost for the materials is $100 per family and the class runs for approximately 15 weeks. If you are interested please contact the church office at 936.295.6404.
Last month I read an article about financial matters that outlined some of the common symptoms of families who find themselves financially burdened. Many times they are unable to pay regular monthly bills because credit cards have reached their limit and there is no where else to turn. At that point the couple resorts to a second (or third) job to try and keep up; which only places more stress on the family. Husbands and wives end up fighting over finances. Sometimes the problems grow worse and cause couples to feel like their problems are irreconcilable and they end up in divorce or separating.
The trouble we create is often unnecessary, if we would only follow Biblical principles in our money management we could avoid much of it. That's where Financial Peace comes in and provides you with a plan and gives you a renewed sense of purpose and ultimately hope. So make your finances a priority this Spring.
Pastor Gary
